The Aldora Diving Experience

"Only the Best of Cozumel"

The reefs of Cozumel are among the most beautiful and accessible in the world yet, for many the beauty is lost in a rush to cram the most divers into the biggest boats in the fastest way. This means that many dive operations provide an experience for the lowest common denominator in divers, and at the lowest cost of operation possible. What first appears as wonderfully inexpensive dive packages invariably result in crowded "cattle boats", slow trips to the least interesting reefs, short surface intervals, and dives marred by the flailing of novice and incompetent divers supervised by disinterested dive masters. Yet, there can be quality diving in Cozumel at competitive prices - let us describe what many feel is the quality... Aldora diving experience.

A fast 27 foot boat departs from our private pier located in downtown Cozumel at 0730 hrs. We will pick a group of divers at our Pier or at their Hotel’s pier on our way to the reefs. Divers will enjoy a quick ride to the far south end of the island for dives at Punta Sur and the Devil's Throat, or Maracaibo, or Columbia, or any of several other advanced dive sites, all of which are world class sites if done properly. Each diver has his own computer and the heavy breathers are using 120cf high capacity steel tanks provided by Aldora Divers (the only high pressure high capacity tanks available on the island). The dive will be led by the most knowledgeable dive master (all our guides are PADI certified instructors) on the island, and who consider themselves guides and entertainers as well as guardians of safety. Dives will be limited to 130 feet but not closely monitored.

First class rental equipment is available for those who choose to not carry theirs to Cozumel. Rental standards are Dive Rite TransPac BC's, Oceanic Delta II Regulators. Mares masks, US Divers fins and Oceanic wetsuits. At Aldora Divers we require the use of computers and if the diver doesn't have one we provide it free of charge as well as above and below the water instruction in its proper use.  Weights are provided free of charge as well.

On board the boat, dive gear will be assembled by the dive master on the way to the dive site (yet each diver is encouraged to check his or her own equipment). Precision of selecting the dive site (very important for drift diving) is assured by use of satellite GPS electronics.

Once out of the water the surface interval is usually taken at Mr. Sancho's Beach Club where food and beverages are available for a late breakfast or early lunch. Depending on the previous dive profile, the surface interval may be as long as two hours.

The second dive is then taken at Palancar, Santa Rosa, Paso del Cedral or similar sites that most dive operations use as their first dive. Because of the long surface interval, mandatory use of computers and hi capacity tanks the bottom time frequently exceeds 1 hour. At the end of the second dive the boat whisks the divers back to their hotel, and of course the gear is left on for Aldora Staff to clean and care for - leaving the divers free for an afternoon of tropical enjoyment on the beautiful island of Cozumel.

Of course, for the hard core diver, afternoon or night dives can be arranged. Even cave diving in the cenotes of Akumal (a short ferry ride away) can be arranged. And for groups that include some "not so" advanced divers individualized service will still prevail to make sure that everyone comes to know the quality dive experience in Cozumel.

Perhaps the best afternoon can be had by making the short trip to the windward side of the island to visit deserted beaches that are punctuated every 5 miles by laid back beach bars, where sand volleyball, hammocks, margaritas, and Bob Marley music are the order every day. Of course there is the shopping in the San Miguel town square, but on Sunday nights one of the really fun cultural events happens...Fiesta Night. On these nights no cruise ships are in port and the friendly locals bring out their children in their Sunday finest. Local young people walk about...closely eyeing one another while others young and old are dancing and singing. It really is a great chance to join in the normal life of another culture. It is likely that there are few other places left in the World to enjoy such an evening. Ask anyone who has been there on Sunday night and they will tell you, that alone is reason enough to visit this happy island.

Lodging can be arranged at a wide variety of hotels, all acceptable to American standards at prices from $15 to $350 per night. In addition, Aldora Divers can advise you where to find the lowest and best air fares that fit your itinerary. And all this for just a little more than the cattle boats!
